In 2020, Mary and Pegs fulfilled their shared dream of opening a restaurant: somewhere to welcome people and give them a ruddy good meal. Both from big families and with Pegs’ decades of professional cooking, the vision was clear - run a place where people come to fill up on excellent food, the best drinks, and fabulous company. From pot wash to luxury yachts, private cooking in Greece and a 4 year-stint at The River Cafe, Pegs has honed his style of fresh, seasonal Mediterranean cooking with a strong nod to The Caf’s Italian style.

Over five years, Sonny Stores has become synonymous with the independent Bristol food scene. In 2024, they made some much-needed improvements to the building. 2025 saw the launch of a private dining room and introduced soft serve ice cream, stuffed milk buns and takeaway pizza from The Hatch. It’s a business that continues to innovate in this wild economic time. With the help of Head Chef Cai, Manager Jenna and a truly talented team, Sonny Stores is heading into its best era yet.
