In 2020, Mary and Pegs fulfilled their shared dream of opening a restaurant: somewhere to welcome people and give them a ruddy good meal. Both from big families and with Pegs’ decades of professional cooking, the vision was clear - run a place where people come to fill up on excellent food, the best drinks, and fabulous company. From pot wash to luxury yachts, private cooking in Greece and a 4 year-stint at The River Cafe, Pegs has honed his style of fresh, seasonal Mediterranean cooking with a strong nod to The Caf’s Italian style.
Over five years, Sonny Stores has become synonymous with the independent Bristol food scene. In 2024, they made some much-needed improvements to the building. 2025 saw the launch of a private dining room and introduced soft serve ice cream, stuffed milk buns and takeaway pizza from The Hatch. It’s a business that continues to innovate in this wild economic time. With the help of Head Chef Cai and our truly talented team, Sonny Stores is heading into its best era yet.
